this was, until a few years ago and for many generations, the  busy dependable erie railroad.

times have changed, but mother nature hasnt.
she is preparing  us, too, and will one day retake you and me, and replace us with trees, brush, wild flowers, butterflies, clouds, rain, and bumblebees.
"all that is left of these proud laboring men and women and their smoke belching locomotive, latter day diesels, 250,000 pound freight cars, trusty rails, communication wires, durable unflinching crossties, trusty pocket watches, tools, creosote, schedules, and roadbeds, once real as you and i now  so very briefly are, magnificent working railroads that helped win wars, are growths, shreds of crossties,

and the once magnificent oft-traversed, now abandoned, roadbeds."

with my ear snug to the ground on quiet starlit nights, i can sometimes hear those thundering steeds, whistles, horns, and every now and then, a faint faint voice lost eternally in the etherworld.
