there's a very disturbing factor here that a few of you might be missing.
was blago guilty?
yes, of course.
he was totally irresponsible and focussed on higher office than the governor mansion.
was blago less honest or ruthless than most illinois machine politicians? i seriously doubt it.
blago's first trial ended with a hung jury, which bankrupted him.
in the second trial, he was defended by low paid public defenders.
the dissenting juror from the first trial (a lady) was identified, hounded, and badgered in the press and by the public.
would another juror or two in the second trial want to endure thw he11 this juror went through?
how much public money was spent to convict this guy?
a desirable verdict does not vindicate a rotten justice system.
the next defendant fighting big government might be you or me.
do we have a chance even if innocent? no way.
who did more harm here? was it blago, or jon corzine, who stole or mismanaged billions of option trader investments? corzine will never spend even 5 minutes in jail.
blago just wasn't high enough on the food chain to be above the law.
