larger than life

for 170 years, steel ribbons, and the men who tend them,  have been a major molding force in our industry and culture.
when railroaders came into those  fine mansfield  hotels of 150 or 160 years ago, they got special treatment, and extra special huge portions.
they were special then; they are special now.
rail men often slept at my childhood home when winter weather kept them from home.
to a 7 year old, they were larger than life.
to me, they  all remain larger than life.
